So here are some tried and tested tips that will help you as long as you help yourself and don't sneak to the fridge to eat that leftover pie when you think no one is looking!

Weight Loss Tip #1

Ok, this is not any official law, but it should be known as The First Law of Weight Loss:-

When the amount of calories your body burns is greater than the amount of calories you consume, you must lose weight.

This is an absolute truth. There is no escaping this fact and if you think you can eat more than you burn through exercise and still lose those extra pounds, you are not being honest with yourself. Or worse, you could be in total denial that what you are presently doing is not wrong.

It's actually very simple. If you are overweight, then you are eating too much compared with the amount of exercise you do.

Change that ratio and you will change your weight.

Weight Loss Tip #2

Exercise is the key to losing weight. It doesn't matter what diet you put yourself on, if you don't complement that diet with at least some daily exercise, your body will merely go into starvation mode and will store every spare scrap of energy. You might be restricting your calorie intake and think this will make you lose weight, but here's what really happens in this case.

Your body, now under stress from the restriction on its supply of nutrients, hoards the spare calories it doesn't use. If you are doing no exercise the body actually slows its metabolism down to match the intake of calories.

This will make you feel tired, sluggish and lethargic. You will burn even fewer calories so even though you are eating far less than usual, your body will still manage to store some as fat, just in case the period of starvation continues, which of course it will. You will gain body mass because that store of fat will keep being added to, for the simple reason that you are not using it up.

So by exercising, even if it is light exercise taken daily, you will force you body to use us all of the calories you are consuming and then start to use up the stored fat that you have accumulated previous to begining your diet, which is the reason you are overweight in the first place. As your store of fat is depleted, your weight will drop slowly, which is the most desirable way.

Weight Loss Tip #3

If exercise is the key, then the lock it must fit is the diet. You can exercise very hard and eat a relatively poor diet and still maintain a healthy looking body shape and size, but a poor diet will eventually catch up with you. Your body needs good, wholesome, nutrient rich food in order to maximize the exercise you do and to maintain good health.

Aside from anything else, when your diet is loaded with high fat, high sugar and salt food that is full of artificial additives, such as fast food, burgers, fries, hot dogs, pizzas, takeaways, supermarket ready meals etc washed down with sugary fizzy soda drinks, then your health is going to take a hit sooner or later. To maintain a healthy weight and feel good, you need to ditch all that garbage food and start eating more healthily.

Sure, you can treat yourself to some of that old poison every once in a while if you really feel you have to, but make the predominant part of your diet healthy. That means it should consist of fresh vegetables and fruits, lean meats and fish (unless of course you are vegetarian) nuts, seeds and pulses, while you should switch to drinking plain water as the bulk of your liquid intake.

This all serves to detoxify your body while boosting its nutrient intake. The reduction in artificial additives lowers your chances of getting modern diseases such as cancer or Parkinson's disease (although this is still not scientifically proven there is a mountain of anecdotal evidence to support this).

The saying "You are what you eat," is very true and if you eat healthy you will stand a much better chance of being healthy. A healthy body is easier to keep in trim and at the right size than an unhealthy body!

Weight Loss Tip #4

Visualize yourself at the weight and body size/shape that you wish to be at. Spend some time each day doing this and really get involved in it. Visualization is a powerful natural technique that athletes and sports people use to improve their area of skill and performance. It also works for anyone who wants to achieve anything in their life. If losing the extra pounds is one of them, it will work for you too.

Visualization works by programming the mind to believe you are already at the correct weight and shape that you desire to be. When the mind believes something, it goes about altering the body's metabolic processes to bring that thing about. You may not feel any different, but your metabolism will increase as your vitality and energy levels also increase. You will feel like you want to get up and do things, like exercising, walking, running or swimming etc.

While in some cases, visualization has actually led to significant reduction on body mass on its own, in most cases some action on your part will be required. But that is thye fun part, because you will feel more energetic and actually want to get out and do thing that will burn off more calories than merely sitting around indoors in front of the TV or computer.
